Our first project working for main contractor Costain, Vetter UK were appointed to undertake the supply and installation of 12,000m² of internal stone flooring to the concourses, as well as treads and risers to 15 large staircases across this busy central London station.

The work was undertaken in two phases due to the bridge decks going over the top of the building with the rail tracks on. Phase 1 included the south concourse and phase 2 the north concourse and nearby Tooley Street.

One of the biggest challenges for our team on the project was maintaining the programme due to the flooring works being mixed in with the high-level works. Close coordination and communication with other contractors were key to a successful outcome.

With the flooring critical to the overall programme and therefore the opening of the station, a group of 11 Vetter UK operatives worked a 10-day straight period during the Christmas break to ensure everything was complete and ready for the grand opening.
