A showcase of Vetter UK’s full range of capabilities, Westgate Shopping Centre included the design, supply and installation of 10,500m² of stone paving to the arcades and roof top garden areas, in addition to GRC cladding to Blocks 1, 1A, 2 and 3. On Block 4, one of the main features to the external façades is the new curved wall above the Bonn Square elevation entrance. This required Vetter UK to provide a cladding solution to face up the concrete structure behind utilising locally sourced rubble limestone and dressed ashlar quoins that both were in keeping with the historic nature of this elevation, but that also met the clients aspirations.
The wall also included an Oculus that presented Vetter UK with some challenges in the design stage, but with the use of BIM technology the team were able to produce 3D cutting models for the stone production team to follow. Much of the existing structure was retained on Block 4 and the existing arcade was remodelled and paved to provide a welcoming entrance to the development that lies behind
